Christmas Food Deliveries
Poulton with Fearnhead Parish Council would like to thank all the staff and volunteers who helped to ensure that 42 families received extensive food provision over the festive season. Our Chair, Cllr Sue Emery, would also I would also like to mention that we have fabulous support from the caretaking staff at the Clarion facility. Sue would also like to take this opportunity to highlight the involvement of the wider community. As Sue says… “it is a real pleasure to work in the area of Padgate and wider area, the generosity is sometimes over whelming, we see such poverty with some of our families and also such generosity to support them, thank you.”
During the Christmas period there were 42 families that received extensive food provision. The festive food deliveries to those families included; large carry bags of tinned meats, large bag of fresh fruit and veg, large bag of treats ie, chocolate tinned biscuits, advent calendars, cakes, mince pies, tinned chocolates and selection boxes for the children, older residents received a box of quality street each. In addition, each child received a full bin sack of brand new toys, all age related, from our toy appeal and grant monies purchased and wrapped by our volunteers.
Our walk in pantry is as busy as ever, this project is not about poverty, but about food surplus and wastage. During the Christmas period our customers increased to around 160 for the week, this was over the 4 days that we are open from 10am to 1pm. During this period we were inundated with donations from our very kind and supportive community, plus local businesses and community groups.
Our volunteers worked harder than ever right up to 7pm on Christmas eve, culminating in a fabulous 610 hours, this includes volunteers from both projects, our static food bank at the Station House car park, and also our walk in pantry at the Clarion community office in Padgate. We have 21 regular volunteers but more would be wonderful. Contact the Parish Clerk (clerk@pwf-pc.gov.uk) if you would like to get involved. Once again, thank you.
